President’s message and plan for the year:

What I am going to do is the dissemination of educational materials to the SOSORT members, as well as to anyone interested in conservative treatment of scoliosis.
I am also planning to develop e-learning on theory, both for professionals and for patients or their minders.
My main goal is the preparation of the manuscript that would sum up various methods of functional assessment of people suffering from scoliosis, so that all those who deal with scoliosis could follow the same standardized procedures.
Another goal is to deepen cooperation with the local societies, which are engaged in scientific approach to rehabilitation and physiotherapy in order to popularize good standards of treatment.
And the last but not least is to establish a formalized collaboration with the universities, which can collaborate in scientific research.
I hope to fulfill these tasks by the time of our next meeting in Lyon.

Scoliosis Journal and Spinal Disorders
The official journal of our society is now indexed in Pub Med. Therefore I would like to invite you to submit your next paper to our new journal in order to support our work. Well-documented studies on conservative and surgical management of scoliosis are still needed in order to balance the therapeutic approach to this disease. As an example, among 2000 articles published on 'scoliosis' in the last 10 years (Medline, 1996-2005), more than 800 (40%) have focused on 'surgery' but only 20 (1%) on 'prevention and control.' Scoliosis will provide a forum to fill this gap, to facilitate international communication of professionals and, finally, to improve the care of patients living with scoliosis.

Scientific Events

May 18, 2017! The 4th Annual Non Operative Treatment of Childhood Scoliosis CME is an opportunity to learn about state of the art, non-operative treatment of scoliosis across the ages. In recent years we have gained a new appreciation for, and experience with Mehta casting in children with infantile and juvenile scoliosis. Experts in the field will share theory and hands on practical tips in Mehta or EF casting. Patients with juvenile and adolescent scoliosis also have vastly expanded palette of treatment options including Schroth physical therapy and Rigo Cheneau bracing. Experts from Columbia’s Center for the Conservative Treatment of Scoliosis and visiting lecturers will share their experience in presentations and will demonstrate best practices in workshop settings.
The course will review the current state of knowledge about bracing, updated recently by the pivotal BRAIST trial. We are excited to have one of the authors of this trial, Dr. Stuart Weinstein here to speak on scoliosis and bracing. Participants will emerge with a renewed appreciation of the three dimensional aspects of scoliosis and the full gamut of modern treatment options. Highlights will include presentations by patients and families of patients who have successfully been treated with casting, Schroth therapy and Rigo- Cheneau bracing. The faculty and speakers are the most experienced in the field, bringing expertise in bracing, casting, and therapy for childhood scoliosis.
